It was recently announced that the initial lockdown date of September 2026 will only apply to apps installed by a handful of specific app stores (https://developer.android.com/developer-verification/guides/faq#general): Honor (HONOR App Market), OPlus (OPPO App Market), Samsung (Galaxy Store), Transsion (Palm Store), vivo (V-Appstore), Xiaomi (GetApps). We've gotten confirmation that the initial lockdown in September will not apply either to directly-installed ("sideloaded") app nor to apps installed by apps on that list.
We are still expecting this to apply to F-Droid and other app stores sometime in 2027, so we changed the countdown date to January 1st, 2027. We expect this will be pushed back somewhat as updated timelines are announced.
This PR also adds a new "FAQ" page where we can post updates and new information as it becomes apparent.
