Falling Stars is a digital experience about light pollution that blends data analysis, interactivity, and storytelling. It is the second part of LOSS, a two-part series exploring disappearance in the natural world.
The project invites users to explore a night sky and experience how it changes as light pollution increases. Using an interactive slider, viewers can gradually increase the level of light pollution. As the sky brightens, stars begin to disappear and fall to the ground.
Each fallen star represents more than a point of light: it stands for a story once passed down under dark skies.
The project moves beyond scientific models of light pollution to explore what its increase can mean culturally and emotionally. As the night sky fades, we lose not only visibility of the stars, but also part of the stories and experiences connected to them.

Light pollution is often communicated through measurements and maps. I wanted to explore how the same issue could be experienced more emotionally.
Falling Stars was created as a counterpart to a broader data analysis project on light pollution, translating an environmental change into something users can see and experience directly.
