Summary

Add --ckpt_dir for checkpoint output directory configuration.
Add optional --step_ckpt_interval for periodic step checkpoints.
Preserve the existing default latest/best checkpoint filenames under the default checkpoints directory.

Tests

python3 -m py_compile main.py
