It is a very interesting project and I have not found much similar out there, so I really hope it can get a bit of traction.

Just in case anyone would be interested I've been building somewhat similar project. My project is more IMAP centric (implements full IMAP4rev1 standard + CONDSTORE) and uses MongoDB for storage. https://github.com/wildduck-email/wildduck
