How to install vscodevim extension "locally" in code-server?

I am running code-server via my localmachine to develop on my aws dev machine by port-forwarding via SSH. When I try to install a vscodevim extension and it gives an error

However, I am able to install vscodevim on the remote machine by manually installing via vsix. However, the extension is noticeably slow and I want to install it on my local machine similarly to remote-ssh extension in vscode. Is this possible?

You can't because the VS Code Marketplace extensions are sort of closed-source, like, you can't use it anywhere other than VS Code and Gitpod. Gitpod is sort of official, but code-server uses Open-VSX, so not all extensions are there.

I don't understand how they are related? I am able to install other extensions from the marketplace and even vscodevim, but it's installed remotely. The thing I need is for the extension to load directly in the browser.

I don't understand and I don't think I am the person to answer this. But @jsjoeio might know about extensions.

There's an issue with the latest version of the vscodevim extension. See VSCodeVim/Vim#6826

For now, I recommend using an older version like 1.18.9
